INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK DAY 2016

ICBD is celebrated on this day (April 2nd) every year.

Every year ICBD is celebrated by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)

The aim is to stir young minds into the essence of reading

WHY APRIL 2nd? Well it is the birth date of the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen (2 April 1805 – 4 August 1875) well known for writing children’s stories especially fairy tales. Some of his best works include “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Nightingale”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Thumbelina”, “The Snow Queen”, etc.

Each year ICBD is sponsored by a different National section of IBBY serves as the international sponsor of ICBD.

The sponsor for International Children’s Book Day for 2016 is Brazil and the theme for 2016 is Once Upon A Time….
