World EARTH DAY is celebrated every year all over the world on April 22nd to encourage people across the universe to support for environmental protection.
The first EARTH DAY was held in America on April 22, 1970.
It was founded by former US senator Gaylord Nelson, after seeing the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 which done a heavy damage to our Mother Earth.
Year by year EARTH DAY celebrations attracted thousands of people to get involved in this noble cause. According to Earth Day Network, in 1990, around 200 million people in 141 Countries participated in the event.
EARTH is the only planet where all living beings can survive.
EARTH DAY 2016 – THEME “TREES FOR THE EARTH”
Why TREES?
According to Earth Day Network (EDN)
“Trees help combat climate change”
They absorb excess and harmful CO2 from our atmosphere. In fact, in a single year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the same amount of CO2 produced by driving the average car 26,000 miles. http://www.earthday.org/earth-day/earth-day-theme/
“Trees help us breathe clean air”
Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.

“Trees help communities”
Trees help communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability and provide food, energy and income. http://www.earthday.org/earth-day/earth-day-theme/
EDN has a plan to plant 7.8 billion trees by EARTH DAY’s 50th in 2020
