  1. Children should be made to wear their cotton clothes at the time of fever. Too much of clothes on them should be removed.
  2. Paracetamol or Ibuprofen are the medicines should used to control the temperature.
  3. Children should not be given Aspirin for fever.
  4. If started, one medicine has to be continued. No need to change the medicines very often.
  5. For example, once the child is started on Paracetamol, it as to be given every 4-6hours as per the advice of doctor according to the weight of the child. Or else, if Ibuprofen is started it should be given every 6 hours.  After giving Paracetamol twice or thrice it is not advisable to switch over to Ibuprofen immediately.
  6. If the child is having temperature inspite of giving medicines and the temperature is high Tepid Sponging’ can be given to control the temperature. Tepid Sponging means a towel dipped in warm water should be put over the baby’s body at short intervals for 20 to 30 minutes till the temperature comes down.
  7. Some children may get convulsion (FUTS) if the temperature is high. This is called as ‘Febrile fits’ or fits due to fever.
  8. This febrile fits is a familial condition. Anybody, in their family, while they were young had fits means, possibilities of getting febrile fits are more.
  9. As the temperature rises, at the peak of the temperature children will have fits or convulsion.
  10. At the time of fits both hands and legs will have rapid contractile movements with upward rolling of eyeballs and frothing at mouth. This fits may not last for 10-20 minutes.
