Babies at birth will be 50 cms on an average in length. By the end of 1 year they may attain 75 cms length. Then every year up to the age of 10 years they gain 5 cms height per year.
Ours being a developing country a few percentage of children are still undernourished. The reasons for it are inadequate food intakes, recurrent infections, intestinal worm infestation recurrent diarrhoea, mal absorption of nutrients, ignorance about the nutritional standard of the given food, improper feeding, neglected child care, poor housing conditions i.e. dwelling in slum, contaminated water and poor health care.
In child care and rearing Ten Commandments should be followed. They are as follows:
Children require continuous gentle and tender care. It is like how food is required for physical health, this care is important for mental health.
Parents should spend their time in knowing about their children. They should play with them, read for them. Instead of having a clean, decent and congenial home they should spare more time with their children.
Children should be exposed to newer experience and they should be called with affectionate words. That will strengthen their developing mind.
Children should be encouraged to play by themselves or with other children. Experimenting, constructing, pretending and creating sort of plays should be encouraged.
Children should be praised more for their hard work rather than their achievement.
In all sorts of practicing activities they should be given more responsibilities.
Parents should realise that each and every child is precious. So, approach towards one child may not be suitable for other children.
