If some chemicals or bleaching powder falls in the eyes of children, eye lids should be wide open and the eyes should be thoroughly washed with sterile water for 15 minutes.
Affected eye should be kept closed with a sterile bandage. Child should be asked not to rub the eye.
If there is any foreign body and it seems to be on the superficial plane it should be removed carefully.
If there is dust in the eye, the upper lid should be kept retracted externally. If it is done it will come off due to tears.
Or else, lower eyelid should be retracted down and examined for any foreign body, if it is seen it can be gently removed with sterile cloth or cotton ball. For this, co-operation of the child is a must.
Sometimes, if the child is asked to wink the eyes rapidly the foreign body may come off.
If all the measures fail an eye specialist should be consulted for its removal.
Head lice is a common problem with school going children. It may be due to close contact with children who are having head lice or using their comb or brush.
If there is head lice, proper treatment should be given and all the family members should use the medicine.
‘Thulasi’ leaves will help to get rid from the head lice. If these leaves are spread over the pillow for two days lice will run away.
