February 22, 2017
World Thinking Day is celebrated around the globe every year on February 22 by the Member Organizations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS).
In 1926, Girl Guide and Girl Scout delegates from around the world met in the USA for the 4th World Conference and agreed that February 22nd would be a special day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world.
Initially the day was called as “Thinking Day”, later in 1999 at the 30th World Conference; the name was changed to “World Thinking Day” in order to emphasize the global impact of this special day.
Why February 22nd?
It was the birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout Movement, and Olave Baden-Powell, his wife and the First World Chief Guide.
World Thinking Day is a special day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world think of each other, express their thanks and appreciation and understand the true meaning of Guiding.
The World Thinking Day 2017 theme is “Grow.”
