If a child has to be bottle feed it has to be fed with a broad mouthed bottle, since it will be difficult to wash the narrow mouthed bottle.
Before using the bottle for feeding it should be washed thoroughly with a brush and it should be put in a vessel and along with the teat wherein water should be poured and the water should be boiled for few minutes. After boiling it for few minutes the bottle and teat should be used for feeding the baby.
Before preparing the formula feed the hands should be thoroughly washed and prepared.
The utensils used for preparing the formula feed should be clean and sterile.
If it is not so due to lack of cleanliness, child may get diarrhoea.
Babies on formula feed should be given 2-3 ounce milk every day for 6-7 times a day during the first month.
From 1 month – 2 months, 3 to 4 ounces of milk should be fed six to seven times a day.
From 2 months to 4 months, 4 to 5 ounces of milk should be fed five to six times a day.
From 4 to 6 months, 4 to 5 ounces of milk should be fed 5 times a day.
After 6 months, 7 to 8 ounces of formula feed should be fed four to five times a day.
