1. If there is tooth decay in children below 5 or 6 years, those teeth should not be extracted, since they are all milk teeth. They will fall off their own record.
2. If there is a blow to the eye or injury to the eye, cover the affected eye with a clean dressing and an eye doctor’s opinion sought and eye drops should be instilled as per his/her advise.
3. If there is spill over of acid or alkali in the eye (alkali chemicals like battery acid, detergent or cleanser etc) the eye has to be washed.
4. Child’s head to be turned so the injured eye in down and to the side. Holding the eyelid open, a cup of clean water should be poured in the eye for 15 minutes.
5. Eye should be covered with a clean sterile dressing and the child should not be allowed to rub the eye.
6. Children who are having headache should not be neglected. There are many reasons for headache in children.
7. Migraine, high blood pressure, head injury, Tension headache, Intracranial infection tumors within the brain and psychological causes are some of the causes of headache. Another common cause for headache will be error in the eyes which needs to be corrected by wearing spectacles.
8. Prickly heat during the summer is another common problem in children who are living in ill ventilated and congested houses.
9. Prickly heat is due to the blockage of the sweat glands.
10. Children with prickly heat should not be overdressed. The skin should be kept cool and dry. Oily skin cream should not be applied since it may block the sweat pores.
