  1. As parents everybody should know what a dehydrated condition is. Dehydrated condition is the one wherein the body water along with salts are lost in the diarrhoea.  Children with Dehydration will have dry tongue, sunken eyes, depressed anterior fortanelle, dry eyes, loss of skin turgor, weak thready pulse, lack of tear etc.
  2. If these signs and symptoms are there, those children should be replaced with fluid rapidly. Intravenous fluids should be given as per the advice of the doctors to maintain the fluid level in the body.
  3. If children get hurt and have a wound or ulcer, parents should not become panicky. They should know how to give first aid.
  4. At the site of injury dry cotton sterile cloth should be kept and pressed. This gentle but firm pressure over the wound should be given for 5-10 minutes or up to the cessation of bleeding pressure over the wound should be continued.
  5. Due to bleeding if the pressed cloth is totally soak, it should not be removed. If it is removed like that it will loosen the blood being clotted.  That is why one more cloth is kept over the already pressed cloth and continued pressure should be given.
  6. ‘If the bleeding is much from the wound packing the wound with coal powder or coffee powder or face powder should not be done. Clothes burnt in fire and pressed over the wound should be avoided.
  7. If the wound is superficial it should be washed with soap and water. Then it should be allowed to dry.
  8. If the wound is deep or bleeding is too much the wound should not be washed.
  9. Depending upon the seriousness of the injury and depth of the wound medical attention is sought and if necessary it should be sutured.
  10. Once the bleeding stops, if there is mild oozing a dry and a sterile bandage should be applied over the wound. But at the same time, it should not be tight.  If tight bandage is put on, the portion below the tight bandage will be pale and cold.  This is due to the compromise of blood flow below the site of injury due to the tight bandage.
