  1. There are many reasons for getting fever in children. Usually, fevers may be due to virus, bacteria, fungus and protozoal infections.
  2. Generally, most of the fevers will be due to viral infections. For viral fever medicines which control the fever alone will be sufficient since viral fevers are self limiting.
  3. For fevers due to bacteria antibiotic drugs should be given to kill those germs and to control the fever.
  4. In Typhoid fever, fever may persist beyond 7 days. Bacteria which cause this disease will produce ulcer in the intestine. That is the reason for getting fever on and off.
  5. Along with fever, children with Typhoid fever will have cough, cold, vomiting and diarrhoea. Skin rashes on and off.
  6. In Typhoid fever, tiny ulcers will be present in intestine. That is the reason why patients with Typhoid fever needs restriction in diet.
  7. Till the fever touches the normal body temperature it is better to give liquid diet without spices. If the temperature is restored at normal range for couple of days.  Soft bland semisolid food should be given for 2-3 days.  Then solid food with minimal spices should be given gradually.
  8. If diet restriction is not strictly followed in Typhoid fever it may recur.
  9. To prevent Typhoid fever always give boiled and cooled water to children to drink.
  10. Malaria is another fever which is commonly encountered. It is due to the bite of mosquitoes.
