Generally speaking, there is no need for digestive tonics for new born babies.
In village, to make the new born babies to pass motion daily, belief of inserting dry tobacco stem piece in the anus is still there. It is also a false belief.
Some newborn babies will pass frequent motions. (usually newborn babies will pass 6-7 stools a day) Illiterate people say it as due to worms and give juice of the bitter guard through mouth. It is also a superstition and it should not be encouraged. If you think logically, you can understand that a baby who is drinking only milk cannot get worms in its intestine.
For the diseases of children giving injection only will give relief is another absurd belief. This belief should be erased from the mind.
Sometimes, if children are affected with Poliomyelitis virus, intramuscular injection will provocate poliomyelitis by the rapid entry of the virus from the muscle to the nervous system. So, for minor ailments it is better to avoid intramuscular injections.
If children complain of headache, it should not be neglected. There may be many reasons for the headache. Fever of any cause, Anaemia, Tension headache, migraine, alias, one sided headache, brain tumour, mental disorders, vascular headache are some of the cause for the headache. So, it is advisable to treat the headache after knowing the reason for headache.
If children have watery or pus discharge from the ears, it should not be neglected and proper treatment should be given. Discharge from the ear may be due to infection in the ears. If not treated properly the infection may spread to the brain.
If children put some foreign objects in the nose or ear while playing, parents should not try to remove it. If they do so, it may go in and it will be harmful.
If something falls in the eye, again parents should not try to remove it. It is better, to have a consultation with eye specialist and remove it.
If there is bleeding from the nose, parents should not be panicky. Make sure, that the child is calm.
