Bahrain is an archipelago situated in the western shores of the Persian Gulf in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and Iran to the north. Its name is from the Arabic term al-bahrayn, meaning “two seas.” Bahrain is one of the first states in the Gulf to discover oil and to build a refinery.
