“MISSILE MAN” “NATIONAL HERO” “PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT”
Dr.Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India (2002-2007), the only President who was supported by the ruling party and the opposition. He won the election by defeating his opponent with a huge difference of 8, 15,518 votes. He was affectionately called the “People’s President”
An aerospace engineer, Dr.Abdul Kalam joined ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) took the position of project director of SLV-III, India’s first indigenously designed and produced Satellite Launch Vehicle. Kalam was the Chief Project Coordinator for Pokhran II nuclear tests and produced a number of successful missiles and thus became the “Missile Man” and “National Hero” of India.
Dr.Abdul Kalam wrote many books, to name a few: “Mission India”, “India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium”, “My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions” and “Wings of Fire” an autobiography.
He was honoured with many prestigious awards which includes some of the following:
