The Great Pyramid of Giza, oldest of all the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain, stands on the northern edge of the Giza Plateau.
It is located about 10 miles West of Cairo.
It is also known as the Pyramid of KHUFU or the Pyramid of CHEOPS.
The word Pyramid is derived from the Greek words PYRAMIS and PYRAMIDOS.
The Great Pyramid is said to have been erected around 2600 B.C. during the reign of Khufu (Cheops)
The Great Pyramid of Giza is thought to have been built as a tomb for Pharoah Khufu, who ruled in the Fourth Egyptian Dynasty and died in 2566 BC.
Inside the Pyramid there are three main chambers; the King’s Chamber, the Queen’s Chamber and the Grand Gallery.
The Khufu Pyramid or The Great Pyramid of Giza is the most gigantic single building and the largest Pyramid ever erected on earth.
To create this marvellous structure, around 2,300,000 limestone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons.
Some blocks that weigh over 50 tons were used and the total weight was estimated around 5.75 million ton is a masterpiece which took 20 long years to complete with high level engineering ability and technical skill.
The Great Pyramid was originally 471 feet (143 meters) high Covering an area of 13 acres.
Giza.There has been no writing or hieroglyphics found inside the Great Pyramid of Giza.
The interior temperature is constant and equals the average temperature of the earth, 20 Degrees Celsius (68 Degrees Fahrenheit).
