International Women’s Day

March 8, 2017

International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day or UN Day for Women’s Rights and World Peace is celebrated around the world every year on March 8. It is a day when women are identified for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

In 1908, around 15,000 women gathered in New York city demanding right to vote, better pay and shorter working hours.

1909 The first National Woman’s Day was observed in the United States on 28 February to honour the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions.
